Health Insurance For Senior Citizens - How To Get The Best Rate

As a senior citizen, you may find yourself in a health insurance crisis - no longer covered by an employer's health insurance policy but needing health insurance more than you ever did before. Of course, Medicare covers some of your medical expenses, but how can you get the best rate on health insurance to cover the gaps Medicare leaves?

What Medicare Covers

Once you are 65 years old, you're eligible to enroll in Medicare. Medicare can include several programs:

* Medicare Part A, which helps cover inpatient hospital care, nursing home care, hospice care, and some home health care. Most people pay for this coverage through taxes, so they do not pay a deductible or monthly premium.

* Medicare Part B, which helps cover doctors' services, outpatient hospital care, medical equipment, physical and occupational therapy and some home health care. Most people pay an annual deductible and a monthly premium for this health plan.

* Medicare Part C, Medicare Advantage Plan, which offers you more choices among health plans and extends your benefits.

* Medicare Part D, prescription drug coverage.

In addition, you may need MediGap coverage, which is health insurance that covers what Medicare does not.

Affordable Health Insurance for Senior Citizens

As you can see, health insurance for senior citizens can be confusing. Fortunately, insurance comparison websites can help you gain a clear picture of what health insurance you need, as well as help you find that insurance at a reasonable rate.

All you need to do is go to an insurance comparison website and complete a simple form with information about yourself and your insurance needs. Once you submit the form, you will soon receive quotes for affordable health insurance from multiple A-rated insurance companies. And at the best insurance comparison websites, insurance professionals are standing by to talk with you and answer any health insurance questions you have. (See link below.)

Health Benefits Of Cacao-chocolate

Cacao and chocolate was widely used by ancient civilisations as currency and was seen as a 'food for the gods.'

Early colonial records indicate how cacao was used as a medicine and acted as a carrier in the administration of other remedies in the 1500's. The medicinal value of cacao was in its ability to treat weak patients with a variety of dis-ease. It was particularly known to improve digestion and stimulate kidney and bowel function. Additional diseases that responded to treatment using cacao was anaemia, fatigue, fever, low sex drive, respiratory troubles, poor appetite and low breat milk production. In addition to the cacao bean, the oil/butter was used in the treatment of skin problems including eczema, psoriasis and burns. Today, cacao oil is considered a beauty aid in its use as a skin moisturizer, lubricating agent and when combined with the cacao bean, is used to make the chocolate confectionery we're familiar with. All chocolate is derived from the cacao bean/seeds. Nicknamed 'black gold' by the Spanish, it's no mystery that chocolate continues to captivate our taste buds with its rich bittersweet dance on our palette.

With over 300 identifiable chemical compounds, cacao is one of the most complex and pleasurably satisfying foods on the planet. In its raw form, cacao contains anandamide (a euphoric substance), arginine (a natural aphrodisiac), neurotransmitters that stimulate and balance brain activity, tryptophan (an anti-depressant), antioxidants and other beneficial compounds known to have rejuvenating and anti-ageing elements. Cacao is high in the mineral magnesium, essential for helping the heart to pump blood efficiently, building strong bones, and lowering blood pressure. In fact, the strong desire for chocolate during the female menstrual cycle may be related to cravings for magnesium, a mineral with calming qualities. Cacao is a good source of the beauty mineral sulphur, responsible for healthy skin, nails and hair. In today's culture, chocolate is used as a gift for occasions such as St Valentines Day, Easter, Birthdays and Christmas etc. Many of us are likely to consume a little chocolate everyday for its mood boosting effects in an attempt to escape from the stress of working life. Chocolate satiates our appetite for pleasure like no other substance. Is it any wonder that 50% of women prefer chocolate to sex? The portability and availability of chocolate makes it the perfect private pleasure to enjoy anytime, anywhere.

With the revival of films like 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory' and 'Le Chocolat', chocolate lovers everywhere got to indulge their fantasies, inspired by the film industry. It's safe to say that Johnny Depp and Chocolate create a unique and compatible partnership most women would be happy to personally explore! Yes, chocolate and sex go hand in hand and when packaged in shiny red and gold, make a highly attractive and stimulating friend no one wants to be without.

A symbol of sensuality, any male suitor is wise to offer a gift of chocolate to any prospective female; a delightful box of dark edibles all wrapped in decorative gold foil will put a smile on any chocolate-loving females face. Cacao has always been associated with fertility and love by indigenous cultures.

The versatility of chocolate has allowed us to expand our repertoire of how we can engage ourselves with its intense flavours and textures. From mouth-watering rich cream gateaux to the velvety texture in truffles, there is nothing we can't do with chocolate; it inspires us to create more and more mouth-watering variations to satisfy our appetite. In fact, one can devote one's whole life to becoming a chocolate 'creative' of distinction.

Chocolate will always be an affordable luxury that almost anyone can indulge regardless of class or stature. We can all taste what the Aztecs and Mayans tasted and we will always be grateful for their cultivation of the revered and sacred cacao bean. Long may we continue our passionate, blissful affair with this divine gift from the cacao tree.

Are Indoor Humidity Levels Affecting Your Health?

The ideal indoor humidity level is either 35% to 45% or 40% to 50% depending on who you ask. Thankfully, the human body is quite flexible and you do not have too aim at an exact figure. The important thing is to avoid extremes. Living indoors is not entirely natural. The artificial environments that we create for ourselves can sometimes cause extremes of humidity to occur. For short periods of time this is nothing to worry about, but the long term effects can be quite unpleasant.

If the humidity level regularly exceeds 50% you are likely to experience a rapidly increasing dust mite population, which will affect allergy sufferers. Permanently damp rooms tend to have a musty smell. The damp air is a perfect breeding ground for mold, mildew and fungus, which can cause serious health problems. Where ever possible the cause of such conditions should be removed, but it is not always that simple and a dehumidifier may be required. A modern dehumidifier with built in humidistat can be programmed to maintain a humidity level below 50%. There are a wide variety available, so it is important to find the correct type for your situation. A useful guide to dehumidifiers can be found at together with everything else you need to know on the subject.

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, maybe you should buy a hygrometer (humidity meter) and take some readings to find out if humidity is the cause. With modern technology at your disposal there is no need for your health to suffer.

Florida State Health Insurance

Florida state health insurance is the best solution for people who are denied sufficient insurance coverage due to their medial conditions. This is an affordable health insurance plan initiated by the Florida Legislature. The flexibility of state health insurance is far superior to the normal choices like individual health insurances and group health insurances. Most programs in Florida state health insurance provide coverage at affordable rates that can well fit the budgets of all qualifying Floridian families.

For people who have low income, Florida state health insurance has the Medicaid program that they could possible qualify for. Your local Division of Family Services office will provide the necessary information and the prescribed application form. Interesting thing here is the number of people who would actually qualify for this service but most people think they would not. The program requires filling out an application and providing some documentation about your finances. The policy issued by this program covers medical expenses of the entire family, including dental work, eye care, doctor visits, emergency care, and prescription drugs.

For people with children who do not get coverage through their employment, Florida state health insurance has programs to insure the health of children. One of the programs is the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation (FHKC), which provides private sector health care coverage to uninsured children in 24 counties using school districts as large risk pools. Child plans cover a full range of services from regular check-ups, preventive care, immunization, lab tests, to hospital visits and other related expenses. Besides, the State of Florida extends Medicaid coverage to children aged between 15 and 19 with family incomes up to 100% of the federal poverty level (""Waxman Children"").

Florida state health insurance plan is also open to "federally eligible individuals" as defined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act 1996 (HIPPA). The act protects health insurance coverage for you and your family when you change or lose your job.

Florida state health insurance policies have been designed to give relief to families who do not qualify for highly rated health insurance programs nor have the ability to pay the expensive installments of private insurance.

The substance does this by preventing bacteria from adhering to the cells which line the walls of the urinary tract.

The Health Benefits Of Bilberry

Bilberry is made from a little blue berry that is related to blueberries and cranberries. Bilberry is a powerful anti-inflammatory. The herb is also a powerful antioxidant and has glucoquinine (lowers blood sugar levels). Bilberry contains flavonoids called anthocyanosides that protect the collagen structures in the blood vessels of the eye. Bilberry is used to treat eye problems such as Macular Degeneration, diabetic neuropathy, and/or cataracts.

Benefits of Bilberry

Bilberry is found mostly in dark skinned fruits. It is used to treat diarrhea, vericose veins, and mucous membrane inflammation. The herb is beneficial in the treatment of hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and in eye health.

This herb may also help night vision. During World War II, British Pilots ate bilberry jam before going out on night flights. They claimed it improved their vision. It is believed that the bilberry herb helps the eyes to adjust to changes in light quickly. This is one of the greatest benefits of bilberry and can be very beneficial for ones eyes according to many studies.

In Europe it is used to treat venous insufficiency- a condition that causes swelling and varicose veins. It further relieves pain and itching, and it also. Helps combat skin ulcers on the legs. Reynaud's disease may benefit from bilberry. Reynauds causes pain and numbness in the outer extremities (fingers, toes and nose) when cold.

Bilberry improves circulation and makes artery walls. The herb may reduce inflammation, ease gastro-intestinal problems, and gum problems that have been linked to heart disease. Diarrhea and mouth sores can benefit from Bilberry as well. Bilberry has strong antiseptic properties, relieves peptic ulcers, diabetes, fibrocystic diseases, and painful menstruation.

Our conclusion For The Benefits Of Bilberry

Because of Bilberry's strong antioxidant composition, the herb makes an excellent free radical scavenger, which helps combat the cell damage that leads to premature aging and disease. The most noted benefit that we briefly discussed above, is its ability to treat a range of problems relating to ones eye health. For example, the herb protects collagen structures in the blood vessels of the eyes, thus promoting healthy capillaries that carry many vital nutrients, such as oxygen-rich blood to your eye muscles.

Various Studies have confirmed that the benefits of bilberry go even further than one might be aware of. The herb can be useful for protecting against macular degeneration, cataracts, night blindness, and poor or fading vision. We believe bilberry to be one of the best herbs available for the protection of ones eyes health. Clinical studies have even shown that if given orally to healthy people, it improves visual accuracy. Our conclusion is that everyone should consider consuming bilberry as it helps as part of an overall maintenance of ones health.

Other benefits of bilberry include treating menstrual cramps and helping aid stomach ulcers. Varicose veins, thrombosis, angina, and poor circulation may also be improved with the use of bilberry, as the herb helps with healthy blood flow.

Our last point to note is that bilberry contains a substance called glucoquinine, which has the ability to lower ones blood sugar levels significantly and its antioxidant, anthocyanin, within the herb itself, can reduce high blood pressure.

Possible Precautions for those considering using Bilberry

Some side effects related to the use of Bilberry, include the possibility of: stomach upset, dizziness, or headache. It could cause diarrhea, and thin out blood. Caution should be used as bilberry could interfere with medications. However, there are no known adverse interactions with prescription drugs, or have there been any harmful effects noted in the literature for this herb to the best of our knowledge. As always, though, use your common sense when taking nutritional supplements: if you notice any unwanted side effects, discontinue usage, or reduce your dosage level straight away. Remember to always consult with a qualified physician before beginning supplementation of any kind.

Pregnant or nursing women should always refrain from supplementation with nutritional products until they speak with their personal doctor.

Our opinion on the Bilberry Herb

The evidence for bilberry's benefits as a herb are long, varied, and shown in many clinical trails when it comes to treating eye disorders and maintaining clear vision in healthy individuals. However, many of the recent beneficial discoveries need further study in our opinions to validate the benefits further. Among these new findings are bilberry's benefits for menstrual cramps and helping treat stomach ulcers.

Because of the many benefits of bilberry, along with more or less unknown adverse side effects, we would say it is a supplement well worth checking out especially since there is a lack of side effects of bilberry -- unlike many other herbs on the market.

Tips On Getting The Best Benefits Of Bilberry

1. Make sure you purchase a bilberry supplement produced with a standardized extract. Standardized extracts contain the highest level of therapeutic benefits within the herbs. Most other herbal supplements on the market, however, do not even contain the amount of ingredients stated on the label. This is worrying within the nutritional industry and consumers need to take this issue seriously.

2. Dosages range from 20 to 160 mg. However, people who are in good overall health should take lower dosage levels, but maintain long term use. However, those people with specific conditions, such as macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, etc mentioned above in our article, may wish to supplement with dosage levels in the higher ranges, but do not go over what we have stated above.

Current Health Articles On The Importance Of Good Sleep

Sleep is something as important as food for our systems. Current health articles have put a lot of emphasis on the care of proper sleep right from the time the baby is born through their growing years to the teens and the adult sleep.

We all have experienced the problems when a new born comes home and creates a situation where all the members of the family become members of the walking dead. Of course, this is a temporary process; however, even the slightest difference in your sleep can take a toll on your health.

The question at this stage is what you can do to get to sleep and to inculcate good habits in the sleep patterns of your children as well. Current health articles give us some advice on how much sleep is really required.

To start with, there are no fixed hours required by children to sleep. However, it is obvious that when a child does not get proper sleep, he will be hyper and disagreeable and you will notice a difference in his behavior as well. This kind of problem can go to the extent that he will be having problems going to sleep.

However, current health articles mention that there are some patterns which need to be taken into consideration in regards to the age of a child. Normally children between the ages of 2 and 12 should sleep for approximately 10 to 12 hours in general. It is very important to inculcate a routine for the bedtime. A time table that teaches a child to go to sleep at certain time and wake up will be very helpful in giving your child a very healthy lifestyle.

In order to make this process an easy one, you can start by giving your child a warm bath, or by telling him a bedtime story 15 minutes before the bed time to prepare him and make him relax. Current health articles mention that there are many parents that think it is a good idea that your child is very tired, and that this will help him sleep, however this sometimes becomes a problem and it does not allow your child to relax and sleep.

Once your child starts going to school and begins to understand the basics of life and how to keep a healthy lifestyle, it becomes more important for the parents to give them some quality time preferable before they go to sleep. This will help them become more confident about themselves through the feeling of comfort and security that you are providing them.

mention that new research on how to treat your child and how to prepare him for life is a very big task that a parent needs to understand properly. Their security and comfort needs to be taken care of, however, at the same time, they need to be loved and cared for physically and emotionally thus giving them the right platform in life.

What Health Problems Are Caused By Mold In Your House?

Did you know that your health problem may be caused by mold? Mold is commonly found in homes and can cause a number of health problems that you may not be aware of. How can you tell if mold is the cause?

Have you ever noticed that your nose suddenly gets congested when you walk into certain rooms in the house? This is a sign that you might have mold lurking somewhere and it's getting into your respiratory system.

Mold grows where it is wet, and it produces spores that can get into the air. Most health problems caused by mold involve these spores getting into your lungs.

Stuffiness or a runny nose may be the sign of mold allergy. Another health problem caused by mold is shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing. You may experience asthma-like symptoms even though you do not suffer from asthma.

In some cases, exposure to mold gives people headaches, fevers or skin rash.

Mold also grows on rotten food. You may see mold growing on vegetables that have been around for a while. Cheese may also have mold growing on it. And, we've all seen moldy bread before.

If you have moldy food, you should throw it out, of course. If you accidentally eat mold, you are likely to experience a headache or nausea.

For the most part, mold is non-toxic. There are no major long-term health problems caused by mold. However, if you suffer from asthma or chronic sinus problems, mold will be a particular problem for you.

If you have asthma, you will want to avoid mold as much as possible. Mold will aggravate your asthma and bring on attacks. The constant exposure of children with asthma to mold has been shown to have long-term consequences, leading to trouble breathing when they are adults.

If you suffer from sinus trouble, mold will aggravate your sinuses. The symptoms of mold allergy are similar to sinus infections, so it is difficult to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.

Even though mold is not terribly dangerous, health problems caused by mold can be inconvenient and painful. It is recommended that you try to keep you home as mold-free as possible.

Every house has mold. If you have mold allergy symptoms, it may be a sign that there is mold hidden somewhere in your house.

The most common household mold is black and grows around your shower or in your kitchen. When you see this kind of mold, you should clean it immediately. Simple soap and water will usually do the trick, but detergent helps as well.

If you suffer from health problems caused by mold, but don't see the mold, it may be a good idea to get professional help. There may be a build-up of mold under carpets, inside walls, in crawlspaces, and other hard-to-reach places that might be better handled by an expert.

Health problems caused by mold are common, but reducing the amount of mold in your home can help alleviate the symptoms.

One very important characteristic of mental health and well being is simply setting set the time to allow your mind to do nothing. It is in the method of not being hectic that one is free to reflect, deliberate, refresh and generally be grateful in the world around you - a world which you are usually to busy to recognize.

When the Doctor says Rest

When you get sick, the most common thing you hear from your doctor and peers is to get plenty of rest. This was meant exactly that. Rest, with no activities suggested whatsoever. The art of doing nothing when you are unwell drains your mind from noise and hassle of the world. As stress and depression rise, having a time for regular outings and vacations can give you some solutions to maintaining a healthy condition.

Many people plan a vacation wherein fast paced activities are planned everyday for the week. Therefore, the vacation often ends up being as demanding as the job that you left behind. A lot of people evoke the feeling of being crushed by the time they have got back from their holiday, and this is the point. In order to get the bursting health benefits of a vacation, it is important for you to do as little as possible and set aside the time to relax your mind and soul that you need to replenish so you can return home feeling rejuvenated.

Take it Easy and Unwind

Idleness is often sulked upon in modern society, yet it is a significant part of your human mental health. It allows you to collect thoughts, to expand your viewpoint, and to alleviate anxiety. A certain amount of being idle is essential to a happy, contented life.

The ultimate tool in stress management is relaxation. Whether you take a siesta in a beach chair or snore beneath the stars, you will feel that you sleep better on a vacation. Your mind and body calm down when you adjust your focus and your pace.

One great way to relax is by reading a book especially when you fall asleep doing it. Fishing is somewhat of a reflective activity. Trying innovative sports like surfing and bowling may not be soothing but may suggest benefits to your health and well-being. No matter how active or inactive your vacation is, your mind will take it easy and your body will unwind. Basically, do the things you love, the things that bring meaning to you in your life, and see if you can mix it with the quiet and calm down time you need with the adventure side of yourself.

Explore Your Options

A vacation will give you the chance to see new places and seek new adventures. Some may take a trip abroad and explore the wonderful things beyond in search of discovery. Others may spend their vacations camping and hiking in mountains nearby. Still others prefer to volunteer in an activity in their community. There are a lot of choices to pick from. Choose what's best for you and for your health. The goal is to get out of your stress and daily obligations and take care of you.

Teaching Children About Health

Life is an overwhelming struggle if we don't have our health and quality of life. For this reason, it is important to teach children how to take care of their bodies. It is one of the best gifts you can give them.

When teaching children about health a good place to start is to educate them with a basic natural health model. Here are 4 basic concepts to incorporate into a healthy lifestyle.

The B-O-D-Y Natural Health Model

  1. B stands for Bless, which means to divinely care for your health by giving attention to your mind, body and spirit. a) Have faith in a divine power. b) Cultivate a positive mental attitude by being aware of your thoughts and words. c) Address negative emotional issues. d) Assist your emotional, spiritual and physical well-being with high vibrational natural remedies, such as herbs, supplements, homeopathics and essential oils.
  2. O stands for Optimize, which means to make your health regimen more effective. a) Eat a diet rich in organic whole foods. Ideally a diet should consist of 50% raw fruits and vegetables. b) Use applied kinesiology or instinctual intuition to streamline your diet and supplement regimen. c) Incorporate enjoyable physical activities into your daily living.
  3. D stands for Detoxify, which means to remove toxins or poisons from your body. a) Avoid pollutants like electromagnetic radiation and chemicals, such as food preservatives, pesticides, herbicides and additives to personal care and household products. b) Eat a diet rich in fiber and use a fiber supplement to clean your digestive system. c) Drink clean, living water. Avoid tap water and over filtered water like RO water. d) Do several internal body cleanses a year.
  4. Y stands for Yield, which means to produce your desired results. a) Analyze the health of each body system, through nutritional and symptom questionnaires. b) Evaluate your progress and tweak your health regimen.

Children learn through the modeling of their parents. So, the best way to teach your children to live a natural health lifestyle is to incorporate these concepts into the family's daily life. The age of the child will determine the language and depth that these concepts are explained.

Teaching children to respect and appreciate his or her body as a divine temple helps them to weigh the consequences of their decisions and actions on their personal well-being.

Health - Exercise Is Good For You

During my daily morning walk at 7.00 am, many new friends walking alongside told me about how they have cured themselves of their health problems through just brisk walking or slow jogging. To look fresh and feel your best, it is essential to stay active and keep physically fit. It is the best natural way to stay healthy other than any vitamin pills and supplements. It contributes also to good muscle tone for strength and flexibility, posture and physique and good emotional stamina and mental health.

The human body has over 600 muscles in various sizes and shapes. They are in the form of threadlike fibres in bundles. The brain sends signals to them to contract which result in muscular action. If the muscles are seldom used then they become flabby and sluggish. It is through exercise that they are stimulated and returned back to good condition.

To keep the heart fit, health authorities agree that continued physical activity suited to age and health status is the best way to keep it fit. It is contrary to the old fashioned belief about prolonged bed rest for the ailing heart. For the heart patients recuperating from heart attacks, it is important to do mild physical activity and this has been included in the care program. On the blood vessels, the fatty substances known as cholesterol can build up as deposits on the blood vessel walls. Regular exercise combined with proper diet will help keep down the fatty substances.

Tense muscles can lead to nervous breakdown or they are an indication of nervous tension. For people who are hot tempered, have a lot of anger, frustration, worry or other disturbing emotions, exercise can provide a wholesome relief for them. Try brisk walking or slow jogging (or any type of exercise suitable for you) when you are in that mood, you will realize that it will slow down and feel better after you have sweated it out.

Good posture improves physical appearance and it also creates the best positioning of the lungs, heart and visceral organs. Well-toned muscles make it easier to sit and stand straight as well as walking with upright body, weight evenly distributed and abdominal muscles pulled in. Your back should be straight, hips pulled in, knees slightly bent and buttocks tucked under. When you combine exercise with proper nutrition and avoid overeating, it will help you reach and maintain ideal weight goals.

There are rules to follow before you commence your regular exercise. Make sure that you are healthy, have physical checkup before starting a series of regular exercise. This applies to people who are recuperating from poor health or wanting to start exercising. It is not advisable to immediately rush into it because your body may not be able to take it yet. Start exercising gradually and proceed at your own pace without overdoing it. Carry out each exercise correctly so that you stimulate your body systems safely. Wear comfortable clothing and select a convenient time (best is in the morning) and stick to it as a regular daily routine. It takes time to get back into shape and don't expect results right away. As time passes, with repeated workouts the exercises will seem easier to do and keep your courage and don't give up. It is like eating, we have to eat everyday.

If you have gone through a serious illness or operation, then follow your physician's advice about the kind and amount of exercise that you should do. Stop exercising when you feel sick and consult your doctor. If you have been ill for over a week with minor illness and no fever, resume your exercise routine gradually as you feel up to it according to your physical and mental strength.

Warm-up exercises are those that help you to avoid over straining the muscles and accelerating the action of the lungs and heart too fast. Examples are sit-ups, knee push-ups, toe touching, leg raising, flutter kicking, arm circling, ankle stretching and knee bending. But if you are just going for brisk walking, then start slowly and pick up the momentum as you walk. The best is at least fifteen minutes a day until you sweat it out or two kilometers of walk.

For the rest of the day after the morning exercise, give yourself positive feedback such as feeling good about yourself and tell yourself you are healthy. It is one huge step to develop good mental attitude to relieve stress at work or home. Reward yourself because you are entitled to it or live your life leisurely. Smiling and laughter have long been proven as important ingredients to reduce stress. A good laugh has never hurt anyone and laughter is one of the best medicines. Before long, you will be looking buff and pink (healthy) and ready to take on the world. So, don't wait for tomorrow, start exercising today to burn away the bulge.

For facial exercise so as to have tighter and better complexion and better and stronger gum, wake up at least fifteen minutes earlier and stay in bed doing facial exercise. Move your jaws by opening and closing your mouth hard and stick your tongue in and out and move it sideways. By the time you really wake up, you can see yourself looking better and fresher. You may be able to save your teeth due to gum problems.

Does Your Culture Affect Your Health?

America, often referred to as the melting pot, has many different cultures. Each state within America has different cultures. You can even drive to your neighboring city or town and find they have a slightly different culture than the people of your city or town. Actually, if you want to get technical, each household seems to have its own culture!

Each culture is defined by how the members of the culture interact with one another and the outside world; their traditions; their beliefs; what they consider socially acceptable. Some people define their culture by race, while others define their culture by region. Some people define their culture by education, while others define their culture by financial status. However a culture is defined, America has a plethora of them!

While cultures differ in many aspects, they are similar in one: they are made up of people - living, breathing, human beings - and all human beings have one thing in common, which is the ability to get sick or be injured.

It sounds so simple, but it's so important. It doesn't matter how much money you make; you can get sick. It doesn't matter how many degrees you have; you can get injured.

Many people don't purchase health insurance unless their employers offer it, and even then some people opt not to buy into their employer's health care plan. At the same time, many Americans are either unemployed, or aren't offered health benefits by their employers.

It doesn't matter what color you are, where you live, how far you went in school, or how much money you have - everyone needs adequate health care. If you are one of the millions of Americans who doesn't have a health insurance policy, you need to start searching for one now. Take advantage of your employer's health benefits package, or, refer to your state's insurance bureau to find health insurance companies that offer policies you can afford.

Catastrophic Health Insurance - How To Get The Best Rate

Looking for catastrophic health insurance? Want to know how to get the best rate with a reputable company? Here's how ...

Catastrophic Health Insurance

Catastrophic health insurance, also known as major medical insurance, is a type of health insurance that pays for major medical and hospital expenses but does not pay for visits to your doctor, prescription drugs, or maternity care. Most plans cover hospital stays, surgeries, intensive care, Xrays, and other hospital fees.

Catastrophic health insurance is the cheapest of all health insurance. Deductibles - the amount you pay for a claim before your insurance company will pay - start at $500 and go up to $5,000 or more. Most plans have a lifetime maximum benefit, known as a cap, of $1 million to $3 million. Once you reach your cap you can no longer receive benefits and your policy is canceled.

If you have a particular pre-existing condition such as AIDS, heart disease, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or emphysema, you may not be able to get a catastrophic health insurance plan.

Catastrophic health insurance may be a good health insurance plan for you if you're relatively healthy, take few or no prescription drugs, and want to save money on your health insurance. This plan may also be a good choice if you're retired and not yet eligible for Medicare benefits.

Questions to Consider

Before you purchase a catastrophic health insurance plan you need to ask yourself:

1. How much does the plan cost?

2. What does it cover and what is the lifetime maximum benefit?

3. Can I afford to pay for doctor visits and prescriptions drugs?

4. How much is the deductible and can I afford it?

Getting Cheap Catastrophic Health Insurance

In order to get the best price on catastrophic health insurance you need to compare rates. The easiest way to do that is to go online and visit an insurance comparison website.

Once there you'll be asked to fill out a simple questionnaire with your health history and the type of insurance you want. After you fill out the questionnaire you'll get health insurance quotes from a number of A-rated insurance companies.

The best comparison websites have an insurance professional on call so you can get answers to your health insurance questions. They also have an "Articles" or "FAQs" section with information about health insurance.

How To Improve Cardiovascular Health

There are certain factors which influence our cardiovascular health. Some of these factors include: the type of diet, physical activity, stress levels and body fat. All of these factors can surely affect our overall well being. In this article I will discuss how stress levels and obesity can affect our cardiovascular health.

Everyone knows that stress can raise blood pressure and increase the buildup of plaque in arteries. That is why it is very important to reduce the tension of daily life. You can reduce your stress levels by regular physical activity, mediation, and other relaxation exercises. Simply taking a few deep breaths can help put your mind at ease. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, simply sit in a serene environment and concentrate on your breathing.

Take a few deep breaths concentrating on the intake and release of air. This is one of the most common relaxation exercises. So if you suffer from stress or you feel like you are overweight, remember a few of these key points. Try to keep your BMI under 25 and relive excess tension whenever necessary. These are just a few ways that you can improve your cardiovascular health. If you are overweight, losing weight is one of the best things you can do for your heart. When a person is overweight it affects the lining of his/her arteries, making it easier for plaque to collect. When that person attempts to lose weight [http://www.weightdepot.com], bad cholesterol is reduced and hardening of the arteries occurs.

Health Insurance And Life Insurance: Basic Difference Between The Two

Many people are often confused about health insurance and life insurance. In simple terms, a health insurance prevents you from paying a large bill by covering full or a part of your medical expenses. A life insurance, on the other hand, gives to your beneficiary the entire face value of the policy as lump sum if you (the insured) die.

There are two kinds of life insurance: whole life and term life. Term life insurance is less expensive than whole life insurance. You can buy a term life insurance policy for as short as one year to a maximum of 30 years. If you have a term life insurance, your beneficiary only gets the money if you die. Most people choose to go with a term life insurance policy when they become older.

Whole life insurance, on the other hand, employs is a mix of life insurance policy and an investment plan. The premium that you pay is partly put into the life policy and the rest is put into the investment mechanism of your choice. You can choose to invest your money in a mutual fund, money market instrument, stocks, bonds and others. With a whole life insurance policy, you, the holder, is "forced" to save money, which you can eventually use when you retire. However, there are a lot of fees and commissions involved in whole life insurance. When you take these fees into account, a whole life insurance may turn out to be expensive for an individual.

Although a life insurance policy and health insurance policy are very much different from each other, both depend largely on the age and health of an individual. The younger you are, the less monthly premium you have to pay. If you are older and have poor health, you would end up paying high premiums.

So which insurance policy should you choose? Unfortunately, there is no black and white answer to this. If you are an employee and your employer offers both a health insurance and a low face value life insurance policy, take advantage and get both. However, if your employer only offers one and not the other, or you are self-employed, your choice of insurance policy will depend on your monthly spending power and overall financial situation.

Although expensive, it may be better to opt for health insurance coverage to avoid having to pay a hefty medical bill when you go down with an illness or have an accident. However, if you are not medically insured and have huge medical bills to be paid, a term life insurance policy that has a face value sufficient enough to pay off your bills will be helpful. You can designate your spouse as your beneficiary and he or she will not have to bear the burden of paying off the debt since your policy amount will be take care of your medical bills.

Disability Benefits: Health Insurance While Disabled

If you receive disability benefits from Social Security you are eligible for health insurance coverage after 24 months. Here are the basics of your health insurance coverage.

After you are approved for disability benefits you will have to wait 24 months to receive health insurance coverage. After the 24 month waiting period you will be covered by Medicare for hospital visits, outpatient expenses, and prescription drugs. Here is how your Medicare coverage works.

There are three parts of Medicare coverage. Medicare part A covers your hospital stays. There are no monthly premiums for this coverage; however in 2006 there is a $952 deductible before Medicare pays your hospital expenses. After you meet your deductibles Medicare typically pays 80% of your expenses and you are responsible for 20% of the cost. Medicare part B pays your outpatient expenses including visits to your doctor. There is a monthly premium for Medicare part B in 2006 is $88.50 per month.

You are eligible for prescription drug coverage under Medicare. This coverage is part D of Medicare. You may be required to pay a monthly premium depending on the plan you choose. Medicare part D plans are administered by private insurance companies and there is a $250 annual deductible before Medicare pays for your prescription drugs.

Consumer Driven Health Plans For Individuals - Pros And Cons

There are many advantages to consumer driven health plans for individuals.  However, there are also a couple of things you should consider before making the change.  Here's how to decide if this type of plan is the right solution for you.

Consumer driven plans consist of two parts:

1.  A Qualified High Deductible Health Plan:

These plans don't cover everyday expenses.  They are major medical plans that cover the big stuff.  Some plans cover preventive care and accidents before the deductible.  There are some plans that cover 100% of your medical expenses after you reach the deductible.

2.  A Health Savings Account:

Having a Qualified High Deductible Health Plan qualifies you to open a financial account called an HSA, or health Savings Account.  This allows you to deposit money pre-tax in a checking account and pay for medical expenses tax free.

The Pros

Consumer driven plans offer a great solution for individuals who don't utilize their health benefits much.  They are much less expensive than traditional plans, allowing people who don't over use their plan to save hundreds or thousands of dollars per year.  They allow you to control your everyday healthcare costs by creating motivation to negotiate prices, make educated decisions on medical tests, and prescriptions.  These plans truly put the control of medical costs back in your court.

With traditional plans, the insurance company keeps your premium whether you use the benefits or not.  With these health plans, you only spend your money if you need medical care.  If not, you pocket the savings.

The Cons

These plans don't work well for individuals that utilize their medical benefits often, of have ongoing medical care or expensive prescriptions.  More often than not if you need medical care, it will offset the money you would save if you didn't.

Depending on your medical needs, consumer driven health plans can be a great solution to high health insurance costs.  If you don't utilize your current plan much, and are relatively healthy, learn more about consumer driven health plans.

Health Insurance

Nothing is more precious to us than having good health. Everyday people are getting more aware of the importance of having good health in order to be able to l8ive life to the fullest. But as the saying goes nothing is certain in this world, we will always have uncertainties and surprises good or bad in our life. We do get sick once in a while flu or even some major illness, or get ourselves involve in accidents. What ever the case may be these events when they happen to us could deplete our savings or even push us to bankruptcy. With the rising cost of hospital fees, laboratories and doctors' fees it is now expensive and complicated. This is where health insurance could benefit us all. Yes, health insurance may cost a lot but having no health insurance at all cost more. Medical bills incurred from an accident could burn a hole in your savings. And in cases of cancer treatments, with all the doctors' check ups, laboratory tests, and chemotherapy that one has to go through it could ruin you financially.

Health insurance could help you pay for the cost of a regular medical check ups, surgeries, contact lenses and glasses and even emergency treatments. There are two basic kinds of health insurance plan, the indemnity plan and the managed care plan. Indemnity plan is also called the fee for service plan. It has wider freedom and flexibility in the choices of the insured. He gets to pick the doctor, hospital and laboratory and other medical service provider of his choice. As long as the medical service is included in the health contract. But, the catch is the plan doesn't pay for the entire charges, instead the insured shoulders the 20 % of the payment. This kind of plan covers only illnesses and accidents but preventive care like flu shots and birth control are not included. And coverage of the cost of prescription drugs and psychotherapy will depend on the policy and the company.

Managed Care Health insurance differs from the indemnity plan in a lot of ways. First, choice of doctors, hospitals, laboratories and other medical service provider is

limited to only those who have contracts with the HMO -Health Maintenance Organization--.Medical services is received only if authorized by the plan. If you insist on engaging on non authorized medical service provider then the cost of service or care provided will not be paid by the company. Preventive care and mental health treatment are covered by the plan.

Due to the rising demands for better and wider health insurance coverage, the health insurance is offering hybrid plans. Wherein, they combine the benefits of HMOs and indemnity coverage. The method is you can use the network of medical service providers that have contracts with the HMO but you are allow to choose someone outside of the network and pay for a higher percentage in the fee.. Managed Care plan also allows open access theory, where one can see a network medical specialist without any referrals from HMO.

You need to decide carefully in choosing the right health insurance plan for you and your family needs. You need to have a careful evaluation on what your family needs and extensive research for the right health insurance company that will provide for those needs. Keep in mind that the lowest premiums don't really mean it's the cheapest plan. Remember the cheapest plan is the policy that will give you the best benefits that your family really needs in case of emergencies and illnesses.

Effects Of Junk Food On Health

The phrase "junk food" itself speaks of endangerment to health. Junk foods are deemed to be trash foods as they are high in fat and sugar components regardless of how they are labeled by manufacturers. The apparent effect of junk food on health administers when there is excess in intake. Teenagers comprise the higher bulk of junk food fanatics and they seem to be unhealthy with such a lifestyle of munching in chips, fries, crackers and other snack foods in front of the television. Majority of junk food choices do not deliver beneficial nutritional values, but you could actually integrate a few junk foods in your diet with an assurance that it is of moderate amount.

Regardless of age, the effect of junk food on health settles as bad as it could be especially when you eat too much of some. You will end up easily getting exhausted by being a junk food fanatic. Because it doesn't balance the appropriate levels of energy you ought to consume, you have tendencies of craving for more food when you eat junk foods. Also, you can be less focused with anything you undertake at work and home because what you are acquiring from junk foods are mere fats, not healthy ingredients. Also, you will experience lack of important oxygen that eventually result to poor brain functioning.

In the long run, your heart cannot function as it should because of too much cholesterol absorbed in the body as an effect of junk food on health. If there's too much plaque in the arteries, your heart has to assert more effort in pumping blood which may cause you to be in fatigue. The excess amount of cholesterol in your body can destroy the liver as well, leaving you overweight at the same time. Most of obese kids have acquired their overweight dilemma because of too much junk food intake. Most of those who are junk food eaters are likely to get diabetic at any point in their life because of high presence of sugar in the body. High blood pressure due to great amount of sodium from junk foods can also occur.

As they always say it, whatever is avoided comes so tasty. Ice cream, chocolate, junk foods, fries, burgers, potato chips and shakes are all tempting. You can perhaps be disciplined in indulging in these types of food because they are initially unhealthy to have. Too much of anything sweet or salty is health threatening. Not only will you have a bad effect of junk food on health, you will also largely embrace mood swings, decreased enthusiasm to handle workouts, weight gain and constipation problems if you eat junk foods unstoppably. In lieu of them, you can pick fruits and high-fiber food for good snacks and meals.

Pros And Cons Of Individual Health Insurance

Getting individual health insurance plans is a common choice among the unemployed or self-employed looking for insurance. In order to get this kind of plan, you have to undergo a physical exam to be conducted at the behest of the insurance provider. This will enable the insurance provider to learn more about you and your medical history. You will also be interviewed by a representative of the insurance company to see if you are financially capable of maintaining your account. The results of these tests and interview will determine your eligibility for these plans. Here are some of the pros and cons of getting an individual health insurance.

Advantages

The good thing about getting an individual health insurance is that you get to choose which benefits you want to be included in your package. These include consultation fees, childbirth and well-baby, accidents, and critical illnesses, among others. You can get to choose the benefits that you will mostly likely use and need in the future.

If you are short on cash and cannot afford to pay high monthly dues, other insurance providers may help you by offering co-payments or the insurance provider will share your medical expenses.

Disadvantages

The problem with indemnities is that they may be hard to get. Depending on your physical conditions, an insurance company has the right to deny your application. If you are a high risk client, predisposed to getting diseases like cancer or diabetes, or have a hazardous occupation, your chances of getting insurance may decrease. But if even you do get accepted, the insurance company may charge you high monthly fees or premiums in order to keep your account active.

The bottom line here is that the insurance only helps you in getting medical attention and paying for it a lower price. It is still up to you to keep yourself healthy.

Florida's New Low-cost Health Insurance Plans

Recently, a bill was signed in Florida that would help establish the creation of a low cost health insurance plan for Florida residents.

Unfortunately, amid all the fanfare, very few people stopped to take a close look at what was actually being proposed. Permit me to enlighten you on some of the more important aspects of the proposed plan.

First of all, it is not a mandated health insurance plan. In other words, an insurance carrier would have to decide if they even want to create a plan to sell. This is NOT A PLAN THAT THE STATE OF FLORIDA IS PROVIDING. Please understand that Florida is in the midst of an extreme budget crunch and is not spending a single dime on this plan. Governor Crist has made that very clear. The cooperation of the health insurance industry will be required to make this work. As of now, there are no plans available.

Second, this is not a major medical plan. If you have a medical crisis and this is your only health insurance, you are in a lot of trouble. It is a minimal plan with a few doctor visits, a physical, perhaps some generic prescription coverage (the drugs you already get in Wal-Mart for $4) and a few other benefits. Surely, none of you ever thought that you would get a complete major medical plan for $150 a month.

Next, the plan is for someone who has had no health insurance for six months. This means that in their infinite wisdom, Florida's representatives decided that if you lose your job and cannot afford your COBRA insurance, they want you to be without any health insurance at all for at least six months. We have a real brain trust in Tallahassee don't we.

Now, you are really going to love this. The plans are going to sell for about $150 (projected price but who knows) and give you the most minimal of benefits. But that is the cost for an individual. A family will be much more. As a matter of fact, if you have a healthy family, a traditional major medical plan with real benefits might be less expensive.

For example, at FLQUOTE a Florida Health Insurance website a 40 year old male in Pasco County can get an excellent PPO plan for about $130 a month. We are talking about a complete multi-million dollar, major medical plan. Not a minimal plan.

Who will this plan help?

I am still trying to figure that out. This is supposed to help those of you who cannot get health insurance. But, it will not pay for your expensive brand name prescriptions; it will not cover extensive hospitalization or expensive testing procedures. For those of you who think that dental coverage is part of health insurance - it is not. It will not cover any dental or vision costs.

If you are poor, you are much better off on Medicaid. If you are medically qualified, you will get far more coverage for your money with a traditional health insurance plan.

Have politicians created a created a, half-way measure to pander to the voters? Is it "better than nothing"? If you are paying $1,800 a year for a few office visits, you have to wonder if it is even worth it.

If you are holding your breath for government sponsored health insurance, chances are you will turn blue and collapse first.

You do have alternatives. There are decent low cost plans available to Florida residents. There are also guaranteed issue plans with no medical questions that are similar to the plans being proposed. You can find guaranteed issue health insurance plans online.

Clearly, it will be interesting to see if this new proposal yields any positive change or does it become an exercise in futility.

If you are interested in learning more about low cost health insurance in Florida, you can go to Affordable Florida Health Insurance Plans. To find out more about health insurance plans that have no medical requirements, go to Guaranteed Issue Health Insurance.

Health Problems Caused By Smoking

There are four main health problems caused by smoking. The first health problem caused by smoking is lung disease. Did you know that non-smokers rarely get lung cancer and emphysema? Male smokers are 23 times more likely to develop lung cancer than male non-smokers! Lung cancer and emphysema are terrible ways to die.

The second health problem caused by smoking is heart disease. 30 percent of heart disease deaths are caused by smoking. Women who smoke are 60 percent more likely to die of heart disease than women who don't. Men who smoke are 30 percent more likely to die of heart disease than men who don't.

Smoking is very hard on the heart, It:

• Lowers Good Cholesterol (LDL)
• Raises Bad Cholesterol (HDL)
• Constricts the arteries
• Raises insulin resistance
• Increases blood pressure

All of these things are bad for your heart.

When the blood stops going to your heart, you have a heart attack. When it stops going to your brain, you have a stroke. A stroke is the next item on our list. Smokers with high blood pressure are especially prone to strokes.

There are two kinds of strokes: hemorrhagic and ischemic. The hemorrhagic stroke is the more dangerous of the two. Smoking damages the blood vessels of the brain which may already be weakened by high blood pressure. Weakened blood vessels can rupture and bleed, which increases the risk of hemorrhagic stroke.

Finally, on our list of health problems caused by smoking, we need to consider all of the other cancers that smoking exacerbates. For instance, smokers have increased cancers of:

• bladder
• larynx
• mouth
• stomach
• pancreas
• cervix

Carcinogens in cigarettes hurt the body's ability to control the growth of cells. If your body is trying to fight cancer, this is bad news as cancer cells grow out of control.

Health Savings Account Contribution Limits Left Unchanged For 2011

Each year the US Internal Revenue Service issues a revision of the Health Savings Account Contribution Limits. This year under IRS Procedure 2010-22 these limits were left unchanged from 2010 due to the fact that cost of living increases remained in-check the previous year. This was most due to the severe economic downturn and credit crunch which caused dis-inflationary pressures to reverberate throughout the U.S. Economy.

Under the 2011 new federal guidelines the maximum contribution that can be made next year by a single individual remains at $3,050 and the limit for a family remains unchanged at $6,150. This means that a family can contribute a maximum of $512.50 per month to their HSA Account and it would be $254.16 for an individual.

Since an HSA account requires the participant to own a High Deductible Health Plan they also set the minimum required deductibles and maximum out of pocket expenses for these plans on an annual basis. The minimum deductible for a single person remains at $1,200 and $2,400 for the family deductible. The maximum out of pocket expenses that a single participant may incur remain at $5,950 and it also remains constant for a family at $11,900. This Maximum includes all deductibles as well as co-pays.

One change that is coming in 2011 is the elimination of Over-The-Counter drugs as an eligible expense item using your HSA. At a time when the government is actively moving to provide health care for everyone, it seems like an odd time to be taking away benefits from those who are being fiscally prudent and using Health Savings Accounts. As of January 2010, there were about 10 million Americans who had chosen a high deductible health plan -HDHP that must be used in conjunction with a Health Savings Account. This is up nearly 1/4 over the previous years numbers showing that citizens want more control over their health care costs.

As the U.S. economy recovers and the fed re-establishes a normal rate of inflation it is likely that we will return to the normal annual increases in as we have seen in the past. Hopefully the trend toward HSA Accounts will remain intact and we can stop the severe inflation that has been occurring in health insurance premiums.

How Traditional Chinese Health Beliefs And Chinese Culture Influence Health And Illness?

Traditional Chinese health beliefs adopt a holistic view emphasizing the importance of environmental factors in increasing risk of disease. According to Quah (1985), these factors influence the balance of body's harmony, yin and yang. These are two opposite but complementary forces and, together with qi (vital energy), they control the universe and explain the relationship between people and their surroundings. Imbalance in these two forces, or in the qi, results in illness.

In order to restore the balance, traditional remedial practices may be needed. For example, excess `hot' energy can be counterbalanced by cooling herbal teas, and vice versa. These beliefs are deeply ingrained among the Chinese, and have been found to be unchanged following migration to Singapore.

Lee, et. al. (2004), found that patients with specific chronic diseases, namely arthritis, musculoskeletal diseases and stroke, were more likely to use Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This was strongly determined by the 'chronic disease triad', perceived satisfaction with care and cultural health beliefs.

Hence the use of TCM is not associated with the quality of doctor-patient interaction. Astin (1998) also agreed that it was seen as being more compatible with the patients' values, spiritual and religious philosophy, or beliefs regarding the nature and meaning of health and illness.

In traditional Chinese culture, taking medication is thought to be aversive, hence medications tend to be taken only until symptoms are relieved and then discontinued; if symptoms are not obvious, medications will probably never be taken.

Apart from parental cultural beliefs, minor side effects of certain antibiotics such as stomach upset may contribute to the poor adherence of medication. The use of "leftover", "shared" antibiotics and over-the-counter purchase of antibiotics by parents are common situations in the community.

They think that their children suffer from the same illnesses judging by the similar symptoms, so they would give the "leftover" or "shared" antibiotics to their children and only bring them to their doctors if there is no improvement (Chang & Tang, 2006). This may cause their conditions to deteriorate and may necessitate aggressive treatments later which may have unnecessary side effects.

However, there are small groups of Chinese who also blamed ill-health or misfortunes on supernatural forces, or on divine retribution, or on the malevolence of a 'witch' or 'sorcerer' (Helman, 1994). Such groups will usually seek cures from their religions.

In Singapore, the Ministry of Health has drawn up the TCM Practitioners' Ethical Code and Ethical Guidelines to prevent any unscrupulous practitioners from preying on their patients and taking advantage of their beliefs, for example, molesting ignorant patients.

The degree of acculturation has been evidenced in the following case. An old man was brought into our hospital with a week-long history of malaise, nausea and vomiting, and sudden jaundice. He was diagnosed to have an obstructive mass in the liver.

A biopsy revealed hepatocellular carcinoma. The serological test suggested chronic active hepatitis B. When the news broke to his son that his father had cancer, he requested not to disclose that to his father.

When we discussed end of life issues such as hospice care and "do-not-resuscitate" (DNR) orders, the son tried to divert the discussion to other issues such as when his father could go home.

Cultural Issues that may be involved in this case are:

The Chinese tend to protect the elderly from bad news.

Believing in karma - the older folk believe that discussing illnesses or death/dying is bad luck. They think that talking about something bad will cause it to come true.

There is an increased incidence of liver cancer resulting from Hepatitis B due to delayed treatment in the elderly, as it may take a long time for them to accept the initial diagnosis.

Health Risk Of Soy

Are you aware of the health risk of soy?

Do you honestly believe soy is a health food? After studying this document and performing some research on your own you will probably change your mind. Soy is literally an anti-nutrient. It may contain heavy metals such as aluminum and can do harm to your hormonal balance.

Soy may slow or accelerate Sexual Maturation, - Cause Damage to Newborns. - Soy contains Potent Enzyme Inhibitors. - May Promote Blood Clots.- Most Soy is Genetically Modified - .Feeding Soy to Children may be considered Child Abuse.- May widely contain: Nitrates, Isoflavones, Phytic-Acid (anti-nutrient). - Contribute to Breast Cancer. -Affect Brain Functions. - Weaken the Immune System. - Cause Kidney Stones. - Reduce Male Fertility. - Attribute to Malnutrition

Two glasses of soy milk a day can change women's menstrual cycle by mimicking female hormones.

Soy can block the intake of minerals such as magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc. This is due to it's phytic acid content. There seems to be a relationship between consuming soy and brain aging! Does that sound healthy to you? Well then what about killing testicular cells? You may see now how soy may unnecessarily cause many health problems including Alzheimer's and affect brain functions. Soy is not the "perfect food" you were led to believe. Actually it is more of a health risk causing many health related problems.

Most soybeans are grown on farms using toxic pesticides adding insult to injury. The only soy products that should be consumed is organic fermented soy. Even then don't over do it.

Israel has issued a health warning that soy should be eaten in moderation and soy formula avoided altogether. Soy users may be deficient in B12 and Vitamin-D. Also Soy may contain MSG from processing. MSG is very bad for you and is another entire article in itself.

Soy is in many foods that we aren't aware of including many vegetarian products.

Seems to me that soy's many negative aspects outweighs any helpful ones. It's a disgrace that soy have been marketed as such a super health food just to serve someone's financial benefits with no care about the results to our population's health.

Remember that soy is in many products particularly in health food stores, so read the labels. Many animals that people eat are fed soy and grains that make these products unhealthy too. I often shop at our neighboring health food store and always read the labels before I purchase.

You have to be diligent. Read the labels. Stay informed by doing research and making smart decisions.

I strongly advise you to consider the health risk of soy and to investigate it further and make a forthcoming decision on your own. It is my responsibility to inform you about these matters so that you may choose.

You can search for "soy's health risk" on Google or other search engines to find many studies on soy. Visit Mercola.com and search for soy on his site also.

Wishing you the best of health now and into the years to come.

Junk Food Impact On Health

The famous microbiologist Dr. Michael F. Jacobson coined the phrase "Junk Food" in 1972 to describe unhealthy or non-nutritious food. It contains little or zero nutritious value to the diet - too much unnecessary calories and fat which are useless and harmful to human health.

Junk food has been a part of the American society for years and now it has become an addiction for many people.

They are very convenient to purchase and consume, which is one reason that millions of busy Americans don't think about a healthy diet or spend the time to prepare healthy meals. It is also very popular among children, and with every passing day, its addiction is increasing.

Scientists and researchers have been talking about adverse effects of junk food for decades. The harmful effects which are associated with junk food eating are generally characterized as short-term effects and long-term effects.

Short Term Impacts on Health

Reduced Energy

Though a person may eat a sufficient quantity of junk, they will still feel weakened since it contains little, if any, nutritional value.

Reduced Concentration

People who eat too much junk food, which is rich in oil and fat, may not be able to concentrate on work, they may feel drowsy, and their blood circulation may decrease.

Long Term Impacts on Health

Heart Disease

Eating "junk" is one of the primary causes of heart disease - Myocardial infarction being one example. This occurs when plaque is formed in the arteries that are connected to the heart. These arteries have to work extra hard to pump blood downstream, which in turn creates circulation problems. Heart fatigue and heart attack can also often be associated with it.

High Cholesterol

Junk diet also creates high cholesterol which affects your liver. Continuous consumption of it may completely damage your liver, or at least disturb your metabolism.

To conclude, it can be said that junk foods can be used occasionally, but using them on a regular basis is very unhealthy and harmful. They could easily destroy your health and fitness. The enticement towards junk foods is very high, especially among children. It is vital to remember that Health is Wealth.

Current Health Articles On Obesity

Obesity is a health problem which is growing very rapidly all over the world. Current health articles are emphasizing the importance of diet and exercise to keep your body weight and to avoid obesity at all costs. It is extremely important to make sure you are maintaining a good body weight in order to avoid other complications later on in life.

Current health articles also mention the need to have a very healthy diet which will keep your body weight in check at all times. Metabolism plays a very important role in making sure you remain healthy and with age, we tend to put on weight due to the fact that our metabolism is not capable of working in the same manner as it used to do before.

There are some obesity experts who have proven to be very accurate in defining your diet requirements and which have had tremendous results in getting rid of your obesity problems and in maintaining a balance without age discriminations. Current health articles help you keep in touch with the realities of the health findings and the real outcomes of some of these claims.

Our bodies are different and it is therefore very important to understand what is really good for us and for our metabolism. Current health articles also mention the importance of having a proper nutrition plan to make sure we are not having some kind of problems due to lack of vitamins and minerals intakes.

Some research done on sugar free components have also been found to have adverse effects on some people. As mentioned before, we are all different and our bodies react differently to different foods and fitness programs. What is good for you may not be so good for me, and your body is accustomed to certain kind of food and diet and you should listen to what it really tells you.

However, some current health articles have also mentioned that obese people lose their connection with their bodies to the point that they are not really sure whether they are fully satisfied with the amount of food they have taken or not. This in itself is a problem, because you have to then measure the intake of food and eat accordingly.

help us understand the different aspects involved in diet, nutrition and body fat and the ability to overcome the obstacles that we may face in the process. Diets do not really work as starving yourself will only trigger hormonal imbalances which will take your body into an emergency mode where your body will only think of accumulating all that it gets for the upcoming emergency.

And those of you who have been able to lose some weight through diets, may have also found that putting that weight on again is very easy. So, you spend time starving yourself and then eating and becoming fat again. It becomes a vicious circle where you only find frustration. Current health articles on obesity and diet and nutrition may prove to be extremely enlightening to help us get the proper advice and to act accordingly and attain the desired results efficiently.

Health - What Is Osteopenia?

Osteopenia is considered the first step along the road to osteoporosis, a serious condition in which bone density is extremely low. Osteopenia, if not treated, may result in osteoporosis. Osteopenia encompasses a wide range of fracture risks including age, bone mineral density, and clinical risk factors. Osteopenia, the milder bone-loss disease, is less well known but affects an estimated eighteen million young and middle-aged women, including those in their late teens and early twenties.

Some people who have Osteopenia may not have bone loss, but they may naturally have a lower bone density. It is diagnosed with a bone mineral density (BMD) test, usually done to see whether a person has osteoporosis. A standard X-ray is not useful in diagnosing Osteopenia because it is not sensitive enough to detect small amounts of bone loss or minor changes in bone density. Bones do not reach their greatest density until about 30 years of age. For children and people younger than 30, anything that helps increase bone density will have positive long-term benefits. A balanced diet and regular exercise will help slow the loss of bone density, delay Osteopenia, and delay or prevent osteoporosis.

Women are far more likely to develop Osteopenia and osteoporosis than men because they lose bone mass sooner and faster. Women who diet excessively to maintain a low body weight often eliminate dairy products from their diet. This puts them at an increased risk of bone loss because they may lose their primary source of calcium, a vital source of bone strength. Women should eat a healthy diet, maintain a sturdy weight, exercise, and avoid smoking. Low bone mass appears in about 50 percent of women in their 50's and more than 85 percent of women in their 70's. Approximately 90 percent of women over the age of seventy-five have experienced a bone fracture. Osteopenia affects an estimated eighteen million young and middle age women. That includes women in their late teens and early twenties. It is imperative that we teach our young girls that they must eat healthy and include foods that are high in calcium in their diet.

To maintain good bone health you should eat a balanced diet that includes adequate calcium and vitamin D, using supplements when necessary. You should also engage in regular physical activity, refrain from smoking, and avoid heavy alcohol use. While most doctors would recommend medication for women with osteoporosis to prevent fracture, doctors argue about whether medications are necessary for women with Osteopenia, the less severe form of bone density loss.

Calcium is the most critical mineral for bone mass. It is a vital source of bone strength. Women who eliminate dairy products from their diet, lose their primary source of calcium. That could contribute to low bone density. In addition, diuretics, antacids, chemotherapy, hormone therapy for cancer, lithium, and some medications for seizures can also deplete the bones of calcium. Skeletal mass is the highest in your 30s and depends on diet (calcium and vitamin D), physical activity, and genetics. It is important to consume enough calcium and vitamin D throughout your life, in order to achieve maximal peak bone density in early and middle years and to maintain bone in later years. For most adults, a daily intake between 1200 and 1500 mg of calcium and 400-800 IU of Vitamin D is both safe and effective. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and other minerals. It is added to milk and can be taken in calcium and vitamin supplements. Magnesium is also imperative for bone health. It works to keep the calcium in your bones and out of your soft tissues.

Osteopenia and Osteoporosis are not always problems of insufficient calcium intake, but rather of incorrect calcium utilization. Osteopenia may be the result of a wide variety of other conditions, disease processes, or treatments. In addition, diuretics, antacids, chemotherapy, hormone therapy for cancer, lithium, and some medications for seizures can deplete the bones of calcium. There are usually no symptoms with Osteopenia and the disease can go undiagnosed until a fracture occurs.

Treatment options for Osteopenia are often the same methods used for treating osteoporosis. Treatment depends on age and risk factors, but it often includes calcium and vitamin D supplementation along with a program of weight-bearing exercises. For some people medication is prescribed. Treatment is strongly recommended to stop further bone loss and minimize the risk of fractures.

Osteopenia usually occurs gradually over the course of many years. It is the term used for bones that have become less dense than normal. Osteopenia occurs either when the body fails to form enough new bone, when too much old bone is reabsorbed by the body, or when both occur. Remember to do everything you can to prevent Osteopenia and osteoporosis because both can lead to fractures.

5 Ways To Promote Positive Mental Health

Positive mental health is a great way to ensure you lead a long, happy and healthy life. Maintaining your mental health is easier than most people think and will have a significant impact on your everyday life.

Would you like to have more energy? What about a good night sleep? How you would like to go an entire year without catching the flu once? Achieving a positive mental health state will not guarantee these things, but it sure will help.

Here are the top 5 things you can do to help promote positive mental health in you and your children:

1. Eat Healthy. Eating fast food 3 times a week and downing a few cold ones before bed might be easier than making a home-cooked meal and more enjoyable than drinking a cold glass of water but it won't do a whole lot for your health. Eating home-cooked foods (especially fruits and vegetables) and staying away from the fast food joints will help you achieve the healthy lifestyle you desire.

2. Drink Lots of Water. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, average individuals are expected to consume at least eight glasses of water a day. And while this seems like it may be a lot, it's actually not. Eight glasses is almost equivalent to filling up your water bottle a few times between waking up and going to bed. Remember, if you work out, you will need to increase your water intake to compensate for the water you're burning off while exercising. Drinking water will detoxify your body and restore it back to a healthy state - especially after drinking coffee or alcoholic beverages.

3. Kick the Bad Habits. We've already mentioned it a few times but eliminating significant alcohol intake will have positive results on your mental health. Likewise, kicking other bad habits like smoking and drinking considerable amounts of coffee will also help keep your mental health at its best.

4. De-Stress. Stress is one of the leading causes for poor mental health. When you're stressed out, your body has to work harder to keep up and, overtime, it will take its toll on your body and your brain. Next time something stressful happens, try lighting some candles and taking a bath. If that doesn't work for you, try letting off some steam by going to the gym or going for a run. Keeping a positive frame of mind will promote positive mental health and eliminate undue stress on your brain.

5. Book Regular Check-ups. Unfortunately, you can do all of the things listed above and still suffer from mental health problems. In fact, you might have a mental illness and not even know it. Make sure you're mental health is in good condition by booking regular appointments with your doctor. He/she will be able to confirm whether you're lifestyle is healthy or identify where you may need to make some changes.

10 Tips To Maintain Health And Beauty

Beauty, health, and nutrition are all integrated. If you eat a balanced diet you will be able to maintain your physique and glowing beauty externally and good health internally. A balanced diet is one that provides all the nutrients you need, the right amount of proteins, carbohydrates, and fat.

To achieve goals you need to ensure a good balance in your diet, introduce variety into your meals, and practice moderation. The basis of nutrition lies in your height, weight, dimensions, and your daily energy needs. Once you know this you can compute what your daily calorific needs are and set goals for weight maintenance, gain, or loss. By regulating your diet you can be active as well as happy.

You must:

1. Eat sensibly. Include a variety of foods in your diet such that the 40 nutrients that are required by your body are present. Make use of a food pyramid and calorie chart to prepare tasty and nutritious meals. Follow the "Dietary Guidelines for Americans" issued each year.

2. Eat plenty of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. They will supply you with essential vitamins, minerals, and protection from several diseases.

3. Maintain your weight at a healthy level. Successful weight management is one of the golden keys to good health. By doing is you will lower considerably the risk of many diseases like hypertension, diabetes, heart diseases, cancer, and osteoporosis.

4. Learn self control, eat moderate portions. The secret lies in eating everything but in small portions. Don't give way to gluttony or greed.

5. Make a time-table for your meals and how many calories will be in each meal. Never fast, starve yourself, or skip a meal. Eat when your body demands sustenance but not huge quantities.

6. Practice moderation. Good health does not lie in eliminating carbohydrates or fats. Include all your favorite foods but balance them with the rest of your diet. If you indulge your taste buds by eating pizza one day, then try and do so at lunch time, never eat pizza late at night. Ask for low fat cheese and healthy toppings. Eat just enough to satisfy your craving not all 12 slices. Get a few friends to share you sin. The days you indulge, eat sensibly the rest of the day--salads and fruits will help you make up for the binge.

7. Be sure your meals each day include all the food groups.

8. Plan to exercise every day. Either walk or take up aerobics, dancercise, or join a gym. Exercise will not just burn calories but put a glow into your skin, tone your muscles, and strengthen your bones. Exercise also removes accumulated toxins from your body.

9. Maintain a dairy in which you record your goals, and what you eat each day. Review your week objectively and create a table that shows at a glance what you did right and what you did wrong. This will help keep you on the right track.

10. Celebrate each victory. Give yourself a present or take yourself out every time you achieve a goal.

By eating healthy, one can live a complete and rounded life without diseases, reduce stress greatly, look and feel great, be happy from within and without, age well, produce healthy progeny, and live life to the fullest.
